4 Tips for Hosting a Fall or Winter Wedding

Fall has traditionally been reserved for college football, apple picking, and weekend getaways to the mountains, while winter has been earmarked for the hustle and bustle of the Holidays, but a new trend is emerging – Fall and Winter Weddings. The crisp autumn air, the changing leaves, the ornate decorations of the holidays, all provide a picturesque backdrop in which to say, “I do.”

Below are a few ideas from the down etc team on how to add a touch of sophisticated luxury to your fall or winter wedding that will leave your guests feeling both cozy and pampered:

1. Get Cozy – With the cooler air, many fall weddings tend to take place at outdoor venues and some winter weddings in Southern states follow suite. One of our favorite ideas is to offer your wedding guests a cozy blanket to snuggle up in while they watch the ceremony. To achieve this special touch, place a large basket at the end of an aisle with 4-5 blankets and a sign that reads, “There’s a chill in the air, grab a blanket to share,” or “To have and to hold in case you get cold.” Our favorite blankets for this wedding inspired idea include the Cable Knit Cashmere Throw and the North Sea Herringbone Blanket.

2. Keep Warm with Personalized Beverage Sleeves – We love the idea of including personal touches at a wedding to commemorate your special day. One way to do this is to add your wedding monogram or ceremony date to coffee sleeves. Having a little extra treat of coffee, hot chocolate, or hot cider for your guests to sip on to keep warm at your fall and winter outdoor wedding makes us feel all cozy inside.

3. Organic, fall and winter themed decor – Brides and grooms are more eco-conscious than ever before. Sourcing sustainable décor and food is easy in the fall and winter months with the abundance of hearty, farm-to-table options available.  Couples are incorporating warm fall hues into their décor by including seasonal favorites such pumpkins, gourds, squash, fall leaves; or opting for cool winter tones by adding a touch of icy, snow inspired elegance. If your favorite couple is eco-conscious and looking to have a sustainable ceremony, we recommend carrying the theme of sustainability into their gift. Our down on earth line is an eco-luxury brand that sources only the finest bedding and sleep products in a sustainable, environmentally responsible manner from seed to sleepTM.

4. Bridal Party Robes – Another popular trend for weddings today is the “Get Ready Robe” worn by the bride and her bridesmaids while getting ready for the ceremony. Instead of choosing the thin, low-quality, one-time use option, why not choose robes that will make a luxurious gift for the bride and her bridal party? We suggest the Mt. McKinley Kimono Waffle Robe; it’s the ultimate classic!  Soft-woven 100% cotton waffle texture on the outside and lined in the softest 100% cotton velour. It is elegant, warm, and functional. Another of our favorites is the Pyrenees Diamond Jacquard Shawl Collar Robe, a soft-knitted poly-cotton robe with a small diamond jacquard pattern. It will make the “it” statement in “getting ready” photos and is sure to be an item the bridal party will cherish for years to come.

A crisp chill, and love, is in the air this fall and winter. These are just four ideas – there are many more out there. As you attend wedding ceremonies, share your photos of fun, creative, and luxurious weddings inspiration by tagging us on Twitter or Instagram.

And don’t forget that the gift of sleep never goes out of style. A new pillow, a warm comforter, or a set of sheets, are all ideal gifts for newlyweds. After all, happily ever after starts with a great night’s sleep.
