A GREAT NIGHT'S SLEEP IN ASHEVILLE, N.C.

 Weekend Wanderlust: Fall Road Trip

The open road awaits this Fall. Time to pack up the car or hop on a plane and leave your worries behind. As we head into the Holiday season there are a still a few weekends left to soak in the colors of Fall.

Ever wonder why leaves change color in the Fall? As days get shorter and the amount of sunlight begins to wane, so does a tree's production of chlorophyll. The drop in chlorophyll creates a lively show of color ranging from bright orange to fiery reds and golden yellows depending on the species of tree, amount of rain received over the year, and other natural factors.

Next stop, Blue Ridge, North Carolina

Western North Carolina is home to the Blue Ridge Mountains and breathtaking scenery around every curve and up every hill.

When venturing outside of Asheville on the Blue Ridge Parkway, be sure to bring a blanket. Temperatures may hover around 70 degrees in town, but as you climb skyward on the parkway, temperatures can dip up to 20 degrees cooler.

In addition to the technicolor display of Fall foliage, Asheville offers nature lovers a chance to hike along magnificent waterfalls. In fact, Western North Carolina is home to over 100 waterfalls. For a map of can't miss hikes around local waterfalls click here.

After taking in Mother Nature's splendors, head back to Asheville to refuel both body and mind. Asheville is home to some of the South's best restaurants and has a growing brewery and pub scene. There is something for every appetite, ranging from Tennessee inspired hot chicken at Rocky’s Hot Chicken Shack, to eclectic New South cooking at Tupelo Honey Cafe in downtown Asheville, to the fine dining at The Omni Grove Park Inn.

To compliment the great food and drinks, music is a key thread in Asheville’s cultural tapestry. After dinner, catch a show at the iconic Grey Eagle of The Orange Peel, named one of the top 5 music venues in the nation by Rolling Stone.

Where to get a great night’s sleep

After all of the exploring, rest and relaxation are in order. When in Asheville, check into the Residence at Biltmore for an unforgettable weekend in Blue Ridge. Lodging options include cozy studios to expansive suites, all only minutes from Asheville and the Biltmore Estate.

Hit the open road or stay home and have a staycation

No matter where you go, either near or far, we hope you have a memorable Fall. Living an intentional life starts with a great night’s sleep, and our team at down etc is here to help you select the bedding that fits your sleep style.
