In combination with our d.o.e. pillows made with 100% cotton ticking and our 100% organic cotton sheeting, you can enjoy great sleep in a bedroom oasis made up with the healthy, as well as socially and environmentally friendly, bedding.

Invest In an Organic Cotton Comforter for Great Sleep All Year

The same considerations go into choosing the right down comforter when you’re looking at comforters made with organic cotton including fill, fabric, construction, weight, size, and style. In the case of our organic cotton-covered comforters, you’ve already chosen the best fabric and fill. You’ve also chosen comforters made with an eye for detail that will make them durable and long lasting. All that’s left for you is to choose the right weight for the way you sleep and the right size for your bed.

1.     Super-Clean White Goose Down Fill

White goose down creates a warm and cozy covering without too much weight. That’s due to the use of down clusters, the fine, soft filaments from the undercoat of the goose. Spherical in shape, the clusters trap air to retain your body heat while remaining highly breathable to allow temperature regulation. The white goose down fill we use in our organic cotton comforters is 100% natural and has been subjected to the CentroClean™ process to ensure removal of any contaminants.

2.     100% Organic Cotton Ticking

The material from which the sack containing the fill of your comforter is made is called the ticking.  The ticking can be manufactured in a variety of fabrics but is most often woven from cotton.  Our organic cotton ticking is Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified. The aim of this standard is “to define world-wide recognized requirements that ensure the certified organic status of textiles, from the harvesting of the raw fibre, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labelling in order to provide credible assurance to the end consumer.”  GOTS  “reconciles the need of the textile industry for one global standard with consumers’ desire for transparency.”

It's not just about organic fibers. Concerned with the bigger picture of sustainability, GOTS considers the entire processing chain. Certification by GOTS means our organic cotton ticking is grown free of chemicals that can cause cancer, birth defects, or other injuries; only low-impact chemicals may be used. Environmentally, it includes restrictions on wastewater and sets target goals to reduce water and energy consumption. Socially, it requires safe working conditions, no discrimination, and no child labor. Regular inspections are done throughout the entire supply chain. For details of the requirements of GOTS certification, you can watch the video clip linked below.

3.     Detailed Construction for Durability

The key factor is durability.  The last thing you need to worry about is down floating around your bedroom every time you hop in bed or launder your comforter because your comforter is coming loose at the seams, or the down and feathers are poking through the ticking. For this reason, we construct our comforters with down-proof ticking. Our d.o.e. comforters are made with 235-thread-count, 100% organic cotton ticking in the natural color.

They are made with 1 ¼” deep baffle-box construction in which a thin strip of fabric is sewn between the two covers to create a three-dimensional box for the feathers to allow them to achieve their full loft or fluffiness. This type of construction keeps the fill evenly distributed, prevents shifting, and reduces cold spots. They are sewn with invisible seams, double stitching, and German cotton piping for strength and durability even through home laundering. Yes, you can wash and dry your down comforters at home if you have machines large enough to allow movement during the cycles.

4.     Choice of Weights for the Way You Sleep

Consider the climate in which you live, as well as the temperature at which you keep your thermostat, to select the weight of your comforter. We manufacture  our d.o.e. comforter in summer weight, perfect when you need the feel of a comforter without too much weight or warmth, and in all-seasons weight, which can provide comfort across the seasons and climates.

If you’re not sure how you sleep, or you and your bed partner sleep at different temperatures, we recommend you begin with one of our all-seasons comforters. They are the choice of many hotel clients as they can provide a superior sleep experience to a wide range of guests.

5.     Range of Sizes to Fit Your Room Aesthetic

Each of our comforters is available in a range of sizes. Your choice of size can depend upon several factors including the size of your mattress, the type of bed frame, and your aesthetic. The size of your mattress and how you want your comforter to hang will be the main determining consideration in the size of the comforter you choose.  If you want the sides to hang to the bottom of the box spring, you will need to calculate a size above your mattress size.

Your down comforter is only one piece of your bedding. We recommend selecting the comforter that meets your sleep needs and placing it in a duvet cover from our line of d.o.e. 100% organic sheet sets to meet your aesthetic preferences. That way, you can change the look of the bed as easily as changing the sheets. After all, your bed is the centerpiece of your bedroom, and the look of the comforter cover should reflect your personal style. Each of our sheet sheets includes a coordinated comforter cover.

Enjoy a cozy bed knowing the bedding is friendly to you and to those who have participated in its production.
